The preliminary task was to create a video of somebody walking to a door, opening it, then walking across the room and then exchanging around five sentences of dialogue. I worked with Alice Haydock and Lyle Petts. Alice was on the camera, and myself and Lyle were exchanging dialogue. We chose Alice to be the camera man as she felt in herself she had good camera skills, whereas myself and Lyle felt confident to feature in the video.
Camera Work
We used many shots such as long shot, medium long shot, point of view shot, over the shoulder shot, shot reverse shot, and reaction shot. The shots we took were steady because we used a tri-pod, they were also in focus. With our shots included the rule of thirds except maybe one shot.
The camera was also at a good height, we tried to make Lyle look more powerful in the way that when i was speaking i would slouch down slightly and look up to him. We also followed the 180o degree rule, this was the main thing we took into consideration whilst filming. i feel that Myself and Lyle were also visible the whole way through as we did not use zoom we just done the shots straight.
I also feel we got the eyeline match very good which is another positive. However i do feel there was one shot where muyself and Lyle's faces are barely in the screen. It was not like this when we filmed it but as we edited it the shot would not stay original and it kept cutting the edge off. We did not solve this problem in the end.
Editing
Our match on action i feel is perfect, it all flows, it does not look awkward and i will be looking for the same sort of match on action for my final piece. There are not any jump cuts, although there was one but we got around it by putting a clip of myself in between so you do not notice it.
I also feel that our shot reverse shot was excecuted very well, also the pace of the shots i feel are well timed, this is vital as you do not want some fast shots and some slow as it would not fit in together correctly.
The transitions are also invisivle, you do not want fancy transitions as it would make the video look childish.
On the whole i do not think that i would want to change any edits as i feel this was done in a good manner.
Sound/Mise en scene
The dialogue was clear and appropriate as we filmed in a classroom with only us three in there so there was not any interuptions.
The lightening i felt was good however it could have been better. Also when we originally filmed it we realised at the end that the blinds were up behind Lyle so you could not see him. Therefore we had to film all of our shots again. The setting was also appropriate.
I felt the team worked fairly hard, however i do think more effort could have been put in and i will think about this when it comes down to the main project. I also felt i contributed alot to the team with featuring in the film, contributing ideas for the dialogue and also helping Alice with the camera when she felt she had done something wrong.
